Heat pump noise reduction

The European heat pump market has been experiencing significant growth in recent years, driven by the increasing demand for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating solutions. In 2021, the market witnessed a remarkable milestone, with 2.17 million heat pump units sold across Europe, representing a sales record and indicating a positive trend in the industry. As heat pumps have become increasingly popular for their energy-efficient heating and cooling capabilities, the issue of noise has emerged as a significant concern for users. Despite the energy advantages of Heat Pumps, the consumer’s acceptance of heat pumps is hampered by the fact that they generate low-frequency noise at night. Therefore, the Dutch government published new noise requirements for outdoor units of Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners, that the noise level of outdoor units at the property boundary should not exceed 40 dB(A). Hence, the urgency of noise reduction of Heat Pumps and HVAC systems is clear, and manufacturers are trying to find (easy) solutions to reduce the sound power of their productions below the limit as soon as possible. If the noise level issue of the Heat Pumps can be solved, they could play an important role in the energy transition process.

ATA Mute is designing mufflers attached to the blade of the axial fan and the casing of the fan at the outdoor unit to remove the ultra-low frequency noise from the source. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
